Creating a DFS root replica

by Dylanturn » Tue Mar 23, 2010 8:00 pm

Hello all!

I'm having some trouble and I'm hoping someone can help...

I currently have several servers distributed over a wide geographical area that all have shares that are part of my DFS. Right now the DFS root is my old domain controller called "DC1". DC1 contains the root for the share as well as its own share. The only problem is that DC1 is getting old and I'm getting worried. I have another Domain Controller that I can move the DFS root to and I have seen that there is an option to create a DFS root replica so that in the event of failure the DFS wont go down, but there is something i need to be sure of. If I setup DFS replication on a different server will the DFS be brought down until the replication is complete?

Iv been looking for the answer for a few days now. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
